HISTORY OF

GIFFNOCK NORTH AAC

The North was formed in 1943 and started it's footballing life competing in the now defunct East Renfrewshire Amateur League. 1950 saw the beginning of a long association with the Scottish Amateur Football League where the club competed with distinction until the formation of the Caledonian League in 1982.

From 1982 to 2002 it was the North's 3rd XI that kept the association with the S.A.F.L.

From 1950 - 1982 The North had many highlights winning tha S.A.F.L.'s 4th Division, 3rd Division, 2nd Division and 1st Division Championships.

The 1st XI also won the coronation Cup on several occasions. However the pinnacle of success was undoubtedly the winning of The Scottish Amateur Cup in 1957 when the club became victorious over more than 800 competing teams.

In 1982 another remarkable achievement was winning every competition on offer by the S.A.F.L. in which we were eligible to compete, The 1st Division Championship and The Coronation Cup won by the 1st XI, The Reserve Division Championship-The Hall Cup-The Ball Trophy won by the 3rd XI. This feat has only been achieved by one other club during the long history of the League. During this period our second 2XI was competing in The West Of Scotland League and for several years we had our first and second teams playing in the first division of two of the top Leagues in the country. From the fifties through to the eighties we also ran an Under 18's team with varied success. In the nineties we introduced and Under 21 team and this has been very successful not only in results but in promoting over age players to the senior teams.

Since the early eighties the North 1stXI has competed in the Caledonian League, arguably now the best Amateur League in Scotland, and over that period, competing against the top Amateur Teams, has had some success winning trophies on several occasions.

Also in the 90's a youth football section was formed and presently the North operate teams in the under 13,14,15,16 and 18 age groups.

At this present time the club operates a 1st team, 2nd team, under 21s and under 19s in the amateur section.
